Stanley Cup and NBA Finals Champs Collectors Rejoice

With both the Stanley Cup and NBA Finals completing in the same week, that leaves us with only baseball for the time being. A lockout looming for the NBA and a continuing lockout for the NFL makes baseball the only major sport we have left to watch. Unless you are one of those few American soccer fans, in that case two sports.

First I am going to show what you collectors can get for your team winning the ultimate prize.

Panini America will have for sale the official 2011 NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks commemorative box set available soon.

This set will feature 36 cards and will have one card for every player on the NBA champs roster. It will also have a highlight card of all 16 Dallas victories this postseason, a card of Coach Carlisle, and a special Dirk Nowitski MVP card. Maybe a Dirk “OneRingSki” we should call it now.

Upper Deck will also be releasing a 2011 Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins commemorative set in a few weeks as well.

This box set will feature cards for 25 players that helped make it happen this year and bring the Cup back to Beantown. There will be a jumbo card, a shot of the whole team with the Cup, and 5 season highlight cards of highlights that propelled them to the playoffs and eventually the Cup!

You can find out more about Panini’s 2011 NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks Commemorative Set here and Upper Deck’s 2011 Stanley Cup Champions Boston Bruins Commemorative Set here on the Upper Deck Store site. Sorry, I can’t post a link directly to the product as WordPress.com doesn’t like that on their hosted blogs. Apparently, if I didn’t make the product myself I can’t post a link to buy it. A reason why I’m looking to move to either my own host or a different host. But if I review the product I am allowed to link to it. Weird. So since I am unemployed currently, I can not be paying for hosting (it would be from my box breaking fund) but may consider moving to Blogger. I know you posted that on your blog just for me Upper Deck.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to say that I am appalled by the acts of the people in Vancouver. I have always had a favorable view of the people of Vancouver but that view has gone down slightly. I understand that these actions do not speak for all the people of Vancouver and their surrounding suburbs. However, the actions put on by the rioters after their team lost a SPORTS EVENT is despicable. It is a sports event people. There are much more important things in the world going on than the Canucks losing in the Stanley Cup finals. To the people who kept it civil, I’m sorry your beautiful city turned into a war zone for a night. I hope you all stayed safe away from the rioting.

Preview: 2010-11 Panini Totally Certified Basketball

What is the difference between last year’s Certified basketball and this year’s Totally Certified basketball? Obviously this one is totally better then last year.

This product is coming out with 6 packs and 5 cards per pack for around $120. That’s $20 a pack and each pack will yield a hit with at least 2 autographs coming out of a box. There will also be 6 inserts so I am guessing there will be an insert in a pack as well, all these being serial numbered from 599 to 1 of 1. This price point is very similar to their other hit per pack products so let’s hope the 2010-11 Panini Totally Certified checklist gives us great value for the money.

Panini has always done great making sure there are multiple possible case hits to bring value to your boxes. I love how they have a list of possible case hits and the number there will be in a case. Each case will include one or more of an autograph from Kobe, Durant, Blake Griffin, John Wall, a 1 of 1, or an autograph numbered to 5 or less. I think Panini has been over doing their legends recently so it’s refreshing to not have any case hits of them in this product.

Next, all rookie autographs will be on card. Panini again is listening to the consumer to bring on card autographs and we couldn’t be happier.

But what really makes this product stand out is finding Panini’s newest technology. You will find Panini HRX video trading cards in these boxes. Now I have not seen these up close but I have a feeling they will do better then Upper Deck’s video cards. You know why? Some of these will be autographed! I’ve always wanted to see one of these since they came out, so I’m hoping to find one if I buy a box. I’m not sure how often these will be seeded but I’m excited just for the chance. Having a video trading card with highlights and seeing the player sign the card is awesome. The autograph sweetens it to the point where it’s not just a gimmick anymore. Even though 1 out of 5 of these video cards are signed, it’s still great some are going out signed. These will be redemptions so there is no pack searching the box for heavy cards. Here is Blake Griffin talking about the new Panini HRX technology.

Here are some production floor images from Panini’s Official Blog so you can check out some cards from the set. I’m not sure how I feel about the “mirrors” this year. Being called “Totally Green” or “Totally Blue” just sounds weird to me. I like that the colors are vibrant though and the player stands out but just the naming seems weird. Then again the name change to “Totally Certified” seems weird too. As it wasn’t certified before? Why the change? I understand Panini needs to transition from Donruss to their own identity but just adding an adverb before it doesn’t make sense to me. At least the cards look nice. Kind of reminds me of a mixture of Certified and classic Pinnacle/Zenith mixed together at times.

You can find this product out on July 6, 2011. And I’m seeing prices less then the $120 on the Panini sell sheet so pick them up via preorder now!

Preview: 2011 Panini Elite Football

The NFL may not be able to get a product on the field yet this year, but Panini isn’t having any problems with their next release of NFL licensed football cards.

2011 Panini Elite football is set for release later this month with all the rookies and stars you need this season. Well so does Panini Rookies & Stars, but we haven’t gotten there yet. June 22, 2011 is the day to mark down for when you can find this product online.

5 cards per pack and 20 packs per box. 4 autographed or memorabilia cards per box with at least 1 being an autograph. I’ve noticed when Panini says this you can usually find 2 autographs, but they are being cautious. This seems to be the year of the insert for Panini, which I love by the way, so there will be a ton of inserts to get your hands on. Included is at least 4 rookies in your box too from some of the best rookies of this year’s draft class and they are all numbered to 999.

Now I love a lot of the designs of the cards in this set such as the Throwback Threads booklet, Down and Distance, and other inserts, but the rookies seem a little weird to me. They are designed horizontally. They use a big and wide photograph of the player in the center with “Rookie” down the side and kind of a plain background. You can see all 36 rookie cards from Panini Elite here. I don’t know, maybe it’s just the fact they are horizontal throws me off. Maybe they look better in person, sometimes scans don’t do cards justice.

That’s about the only thing amongst the whole product that I find odd. Otherwise check out these beauties as I mentioned above, Down and Distance and the Throwback Threads booklet cards:

I love both of those cards. The field design in the Down and Distance subset with the team logo in the field looks great and it’s just very pleasing to the eye. A cool idea would be to have the jersey piece cut out in the shape of a football on the field. Just a random idea that just came to my head as I was typing this.

Also looking good in this set is the Throwback Threads booklet. I love the throwback design where the jersey sits. These are probably my two favorite cards of the set.

I know people love rookies but the inserts in this set appear to be where it’s at. With great design and some great names in these subsets, their value should be great for the 2011 football season.

Find 2011 Panini Elite football on June 22, 2011 for around $90-$100 a box.

Site News: Another Great Day – Panini Day

I like great days. Nothing makes me feel better then just having one of those days where everything seems to go right. I’ve actually had two of those days in a row after a bunch of days where everything just seemed to go wrong. My string of good days continued yesterday with a random email.

This random email out of the blue came from Tracy Hackler, the Marketing Manager, of Panini America. Tracy and Panini have enjoyed my work so much since I’ve started that they are giving me the opportunity to review products for their company. That’s right, not only will I be receiving product to review, I will be able to give out tons more prizes to keep you all reading. At the end of every Panini America sponsored review, I will be giving out cards from that review. So you need to either read the full review or check the break video to find out how to win. Pretty awesome, right? I will be involved in the next shipment of products to review which will be whenever they get around to it. I didn’t ask many questions as I was excited to be able to do this. It’s been one of my goals for this site since I’ve started.

Also, this morning I saw some great images of the 2010-11 Panini Dominion hockey set coming out later this summer. There is a reason why Panini has the best blog in the sports card industry and that is because of posts like these. So many previews every day of the week you know exactly what kind of cards are coming to you. Panini does a great job with their blog daily. They also do a great job on their Twitter with responding to questions. Now if only they could improve their Facebook presence just a little bit.

So I guess this has turned into the Official Panini Day post. A few site updates, some Panini product promoting as a continued thanks, the new Panini banner on the left…it’s just one of those good days. Maybe I’ll continue the theme with a product preview…maybe some Panini Elite football?

Hmm, I wonder what next will come after Panini Day?

Preview: 2010-11 Panini National Treasures Basketball

Today’s Panini Peek of 2010-11 Panini Treasures Basketball is the official preview of the next installment of National Treasures basketball. And so far, it definitely looks like an improvement from last year.

The first thing I notice is there is no photos of any manufactured patches with autographs on them. For a high end product, that is something a lot of people don’t want to see and the fact that it doesn’t appear to be back this year already makes this product an improvement. Thank you Panini for listening to the collector’s comments about those. While there is no official sell sheet out yet, I don’t know if that is completely true, it’s just something I haven’t seen. If they make a comeback I will of course say it’s a bad idea and how I think a high end product should not feature those. But right now, it looks like they aren’t in the product from all of the Panini previews of cards in this product.

Panini National Treasures basketball will feature again the best rookies in the game as well as the best veterans and retired players the game has ever seen. With a case hit roster with autographs such as Kobe, Dr. J, Magic, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Larry Bird you will have a great chance of pulling a legend of the game. Also these may be paired with awesome memorabilia pieces such as the popular logoman parallel or the laundry tag parallel from the player’s jersey. Did I mention there will be some Wilt Chamberlain memorabilia cards inserted? This product is loaded with great stuff.

The design this year is a lot cleaner then last year and it looks sharp. With a ton of on-card autographs this year, the design is definitely improving and will definitely be something to look forward to this year. As always you will find Panini exclusive players like Kobe, Blake Griffin, and Kevin Durant in this product with on-card autographs. Couple that with the other awesome hits mentioned above and there is plenty of nice hits to go around.

With subsets like dual/triple autographs, dual logoman, cut signatures, legends autographs, and colossal patch autographs this is really the high end set for the high end collector.

Panini National Treasures basketball usually features the biggest memorabilia pieces, the biggest names, and the biggest rookies of the year in their product making it a great product to invest and collect from. Some of the best cards of the basketball year are in this product and it looks to be another great product from Panini this year.

This product is set to arrive in August and should be around the same price as in the past around $400 for 1 pack with 8 cards per pack.

Let’s see a nice dual logoman of the future NBA Champions…

Want to see some more National Treasures from Panini?

How about some cut autographs ready to go in the product?

Okay, okay, more pretty pictures of cards to be in your box!

Can’t stop linking autographs, won’t stop linking autographs!

Panini is hand-collating the boxes and has video to prove it!

More autographs…my face is rocked.
