Are You Ready For Some Football?

I’m a little bit under the weather. We’ll just say that I have things in my body trying to escape and it’s very painful. Very small, but very sharp things.

So tonight I am letting you know I have some things coming up that you just don’t want to miss. Starting week 2 of the NFL season, we will have some big, big things going on here at Sports Card Blog.

So if you are not visiting this blog around September 15th, you will be missing out on the start of some big things that will be going on throughout the entire 2011 NFL season. You won’t want to miss it. I will be giving away some of the best prizes you have ever seen, including a huge prize!

Stay tuned for more information right before the Week 2 games.

Contest #7 Results

I needed to hold a Wheel O’ Awesome contest. The wheel is collecting dust and needs to be spun. Plus it will help me decide whether or not I need to make a new wheel.

The contest stated that you needed to guess which Major League Baseball game I attended in which a player hit for the cycle and who hit the cycle for what team. And….only one person guessed the correct game I attended in which someone hit for the cycle.

June 6, 1996, in Boston, Massachusetts, John Valentin of the Boston Red Sox hit for the cycle. I was sitting in roof box seats on the third base side where my cousin had season tickets. All game everyone was yelling and cursing at Bill Buckner who was a coach with the Chicago White Sox that year.

Also, in the first inning, Tim Naehring hit into an around the horn triple play.

I fondly remember Timmy hitting into that triple play with a hard ground ball to third and just hanging his head after he was called out at first. The other thing I remember was John Valentin hitting the double to complete the cycle and looking up at the center field scoreboard which stated “John Valentin has hit for the cycle!” while he was given a standing ovation. It was an amazing game with two very rare occurrences in one single game.

That was the last time a member of the Red Sox has hit for the cycle.

HockeyCard_Andy wins the contest as the only person to correctly guess the game. For some reason, everyone seemed to think it was the Bengie Molina cycle, however, it was not. I guess everyone (except for Andy) forgot about that other cycle at Fenway when I was 10 years old. Congratulations, I will be spinning the wheel on video for you in the coming days. I thank everyone else for guessing and stay tuned for more great contests and all the information your heads can handle.

Contest: Winner Gets Spin on Wheel O’ Awesome

I’m really antsy. I haven’t spun the Wheel O’ Awesome in quite some time. So here is a contest, no strings attached, a straight up guessing game.

I was at a Major League Baseball game in which a player hit for the cycle. Tell me the name of the player and the team he played for.

BONUS! What other strange event occurred during that game?

Winner receives a spin on the Wheel O’ Awesome. There are probably enough hints around this blog to help you figure this out.

Correct answers will be randomized. Answer the bonus question and get a bonus entry.

Contest ends on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at 10pm PST. I’ll be nice about this one and let you guess once per day.

Currently, the Wheel O’ Awesome has fabulous prizes you could win like an insert lot, a base lot, game used cards, autographed cards, autographed 8x10s, Fathead Tradeables, and a Mystery Box! Get your chance at glory by winning this contest. I’ll be promoting this contest once a day until it ends.

Contest Results #5

I think this is my fifth installment of contests here on Sports Card Blog. So I’m excited about that. I’ve given out a ton of awesome prizes and they will continue through time. Although I haven’t spun the Wheel O’ Awesome in awhile. I might need to break that out again soon, or build a better version as it runs a little rough, lol.

Anyway, you’re here for the awesome news, previews, reviews, and contests. So let’s get the results of that contest part done so the anxious can settle down.

My back is bothering me the past couple of days and today so I didn’t make a video this time around. I don’t play favorites or any of that so you’ll have to trust me on the randomizers. And no, BA Benny did not win again (still a lucky guy!)

The winner after 3 randomizations of the 2011 Panini Rookies & Stars prize pack is…

RJ! Congrats on your first win! And thanks for commenting your opinion on manufactured patch autographs!

We only got up to 53 Likes on our Facebook page. I did require that 75 be the magic number needed for a sweet dual autograph bonus for the next contest. But we did make it above 50, so I will add in a different random bonus basketball autograph for the winner.

And the winner after 3 randomizations of the 2011 Panini Gold Standard + 2011 Panini Season Update basketball double prize pack is…

Trevor Picone! Congrats on your first win as well! And thanks for the “Like” on Facebook!

I will be contacting the both of you for shipping information. You may now post your acceptance speeches in the comments area.

Thanks to everyone who entered by giving their opinions and pressed “Like” on Facebook. Make sure you use all those links at the top right to stay informed on what is going on here at Sports Card Blog. This has been a daily blog since day 1 and will strive to continue that service bringing you daily updates around the sports card world. Who knows when the next contest may pop up as well? You’ll want to stay tuned.

2 New Contests For This Week

I think this is contest round #4 here at Sports Card Blog. We’ve only been around for a little over 3 months and we are getting some great feedback from our readers and we love you all.

See, this love seems to go both ways. What do we do when we love someone and they love us back? We give out free stuff.

So this time around we have two contests going.

Contest #1 is to read my review of 2011 Panini Rookies & Stars Football and post in the comments area of that post what you think about the product and what you think about manufactured patches like the one I pulled. A random comment will receive a Vincent Brown autograph manufactured patch rookie, 4 rookies, the Philip Rivers Longevity parallel, a rookie insert, and all my doubles of base cards. This prize pack is 19 total cards, so it’s a big one.

Contest #2 is also a big one in terms of cards. For this one, all you have to do is “Like” the Sports Card Blog page on Facebook. We currently only have 38 “Likes” so I’m looking to up that number a little bit. If you wish to post that you “Liked” the page on here, go ahead, but I’ll be picking from all the Facebook people for this prize pack. This one consists of cards pulled from my 2010-11 Panini Gold Standard basketball review live from the 1977 Portland Trailblazers NBA Championship court and my 2010-11 Panini Season Update basketball review. Right now the prize pack consists of the Karl Malone GU, the DeJuan Blair GU, and the Chris Kaman GU. Plus 2 other numbered cards from Gold Standard and a bunch of inserts from Panini Season Update. If we can get up to 75 Likes, I will also include the Udoh/Johnson dual rookie autograph numbered to just 20.

Both of these contests will end on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at 5pm PST.

Make sure you thank Panini for giving us the opportunity to review their products and give away some of their fine cards that I pull. Make sure you visit their blog as they always have giveaways as well and up to date news on all their upcoming products.
