ITG’s Plans for 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention

The 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention is heating up with more news daily from manufacturers and announcements from the show itself. Today we have some new information from what ITG fans can expect from the company at this year’s National.

In The Game has some big redemption plans for the National this year in Baltimore.

There will be three products able to be redeemed for exclusive cards at this year’s National: UM-11 National SuperBox, Broad Street Boys and 2011-12 Between The Pipes.

Collectors opening a box of 2011-12 Broad Street Boys at the In The Game booth will receive a 1/1 stamped game used memorabilia card from the product.

Collectors opening a box of 2011-12 Between The Pipes will receive a special game used memorabilia card made for the National as well.

And finally, collectors opening UM-11 National SuperBoxes at the In The Game booth will receive a special 1/1 game used memorabilia card.

ITG will be ready and primed for their box breaking event and I’m sure with a few other surprises along the way.

Preview: 2011-12 ITG Between the Pipes Hockey

Now we’re back to our regularly scheduled programming.

It’s the 10th anniversary of one of ITG’s most beloved products, the all goaltender product Between the Pipes. 2011-12 Between the Pipes will be celebrating this accomplishment along with everything else you are used to in this puck stopping product.

As with every year, this product features your favorite current, past, and future NHL goaltenders. But don’t let that limited and seemingly one-dimensional checklist fool you, there are some amazing cards to be had in this product.

Besides your basic base set, there will be some beautiful autographed and memorabilia cards inserted into this product that are sure to open up your eyes. Everything from game used stick cards, to goalie pad cards, to die-cuts of memorabilia cards designed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this product.

This product features some of the finest memorabilia cards on the market at the price they are selling this product for. But beautiful game used and autographs like the one above aren’t all. ITG will be featuring insert sets that commemorate the 10th anniversary of the product as well as BTP favorites liked the Masked Men set.

But one of my favorites this year is seemingly so obtuse, you might just blow it off. I really love what ITG is doing with their decoys in this product. That’s right, the decoys. Every decoy will have a photo on it that when put together from the 8 others that go with it, will form a 9-card picture of a legendary goalie. How cool is that? I’m surprised no one has really thought of this earlier but it really adds something to the product besides blank pieces of cardboard. Now all I need is to convince Dr. Price to come up with some sort of box topper for this product…

But for now, this product releases on May, 3, 2012 at just about $90 for this product. It definitely looks just as good as last year, if not better. You can find the 2011-12 ITG Between the Pipes checklist here.

Panini Releases Preview of 2010-11 All Goalies Hockey

Since I am in a hockey mood still, today Panini America released a little teaser preview of 2010-11 All Goalies Hockey. This product will only come as a boxed set featuring 100 base cards, 5 parallels, and 1 memorabilia card. It features today’s goalies as well as legends such as Patrick Roy, Felix Potvin, and Curtis Joseph. This seems like a page directly taken from In The Game’s Between the Pipes series which is a constant hit amongst hardcore hockey collectors.

A set featuring just goaltenders has always been an intriguing proposition for collectors. This is like a product by Topps that features just pitchers in one product. I have always been a fan of the game as a whole, all players play equal parts on the team, but hockey may be a little different. Goaltenders are probably the most important piece to a successful hockey team. Do you think Carolina would of been in the playoff race if they didn’t have Cam Ward in goal? They gave up the most shots in the league, over 2000 actually, and still had a chance to make the playoffs. If a lesser goaltender were in goal, they may have been much closer to the cellar of the Eastern Conference despite having an above average offense this year.

I believe Panini may be putting this boxed set out as a feeler. I think if this set does well with collectors, next year you can expect a full fledged hobby box product from Panini featuring goaltenders, more similar to Between the Pipes.

If you are a fan of masked men who are the defenders of the goal, this product is right down your slot. Let’s just hope this is a goal and not one of those sprawling saves Dominik Hasek used to do. You can get your glove on this product scheduled for June 8, 2011. Okay, I promise no more hockey puns in this “post”.
