2012 Bowman Baseball Wrapper Redemption

Topps has just announced it’s wrapper redemption program for 2012 Bowman baseball and it includes some great goodies for those who get them out in time.

From the news wire:

“The first collectors to send in 24 hobby or 7 HTA wrappers will  receive a FREE 5-card pack of exclusive Blue Wave Refractor Parallel cards!  And that is not all!  Bonus autographed cards featuring hot prospects such as Josh Bell, Dante Bichette, Jr., Gerrit Cole, Matt Purke and many more have been randomly inserted into these packs making them even better!

There are only 10,000 of these exclusive packs so pick up 2012 Bowman Baseball on May 9th, rip it and send it right away to make sure you do not  miss out!  Once we receive wrappers for 10,000 packs we will no longer fulfill.

Preview: 2012 Upper Deck SP Signature Baseball

This will be the most confusing preview in SportsCardBlog.net’s short history.

Here’s what I got from Chris Carlin, Upper Deck Marketing guru:

“The biggest inquiry I’ve been getting this week however has been on 2012 SP Signature Baseball. It is a product we have been working on for months, but have kept under wraps until it was officially announced Monday. Our official statement on this product is, “We will not be releasing any information or images on the 2012 SP Signature Edition Baseball, but rather letting the product speak for itself when it releases on May 1.” I would highly recommend you check out YouTube box breaks and eBay postings on May 1 when this product hits so you can see first-hand the type of premium release this is. Other than that, I cannot share any additional details on the product.”

Andddddd, that the ballgame folks.

But after some additional research, I was able to dig up a little more information. Yes, I’m amazing.

Each box will contain 3 packs with 3 autographed cards per pack.

You will find 2 single signed autograph cards per pack with Retired Stars, Active Stars, Prospect Stars, Young Stars, and Enshrinement Stars.

Also, you may find 1 manufactured patch autograph per pack with several different dual, triple, quad, and even 5, 6, 7, or 8 autographs per card.

And I don’t have any pictures but this box.

And for $255 a box on May 1st, I would wait and do what Mr. Carlin says. Wait until you see the images on YouTube and eBay before you buy a box.

Topps Unveils Bryce Harper “Rookie Card”

Yesterday on Twitter, Topps posted a picture of the newly debuted Bryce Harper’s rookie card. Let’s take a look:

Oh wait. That was Bryce Harper’s first card from Topps…from last year. Let’s take a look at the new Bryce Harper “rookie” card.

Topps is ready to insert Bryce’s “rookie” into Topps Series II coming out in a couple weeks, and I’m sure several others including the Golden Giveaway and whatever else they have planned for the “phenom”.

Personally, Bryce’s rookie card is 2011 Bowman. I don’t care about the MLB rookie logo, it’s not the first licensed card of Bryce made by Topps as that was made last year and most collectors would agree. The only way this new rookie will be worth anywhere close to the Bowman rookies is if Topps decided to short print this rookie…which might just happen.

Update: Topps has confirmed that Bryce Harper’s Topps Series II rookie will indeed be short printed.

Bryce will also be featured with autographs in Bowman, Allen & Ginter, Tier One, Archives, and the rest of Topps products throughout the 2012 season.

Preview: 2012 Panini Prestige Football

Panini’s first football product of the season will be coming out in June and looks better than it has over the past few seasons. 2012 Panini Prestige football looks good and this year will be featuring all the draftees in their new NFL uniforms.  Gone are the days of blank helmets or college logos in NFL licensed products and that’s a good thing.

No new football product can be previewed without featuring some of the rookies that will be featured, especially in the first product of the season. You will be able to find rookie cards from Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, and Trent Richardson amongst others in this product.

Note: He will be featured in an NFL uniform.

While this product will feature a lot of rookies (100 to be exact), Panini will be continuing their practice of achieving on-card rookie autographs and those will be inserted into this product. These autographs will feature subsets like NFL Draft Ticket Signatures, NFL Passport Signatures, and Draft City Signatures.

Every 24 pack box of this product will feature at least 2 autographs with four hits guaranteed. You will also be receiving one rookie per pack as we have seen in recent years. The same types of parallels will return as well with Extra Points and Prestigious Picks subsets.

With this product releasing June 20, 2012, you’ll be set and ready for the upcoming NFL season. Check out the official Panini blog for more images and information about this upcoming product.

2012 National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore

A lot of information was just released for the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention (NSCC) in Baltimore this year.

First, sadly, I will not be able to attend this mecca of card collecting once again this year. At least this year I have a very valid excuse: I’m getting married. The NSCC will be held from August 1-5, 2012. I am getting married on August 7th. While a trip would be great for myself and the blog…I’d rather not get an early divorce.

The Baltimore Convention Center should be packed once again with sports card collectors from around the world. With over 40,000 people expected to visit during the few days it should be a good time in the Charm City.

From what I’ve seen on the official NSCC website, there are going to be A LOT of awesome names signing autographs at the show all week long. Hall of Famers from all four sports and some big names currently playing their respective games. Names like Gordie Howe, Alexander Ovechkin, Cal Ripken Jr., Brooks Robinson, Barry Sanders, Jamal Lewis, John Havlicek, Gary Payton and more. That list doesn’t even scratch the surface of the names expected to be there.

And of course, you go for the deals. With every top trading card manufacturer in attendance as well as some of the major online retailers, it will be a good time for everyone.

Except for me. I won’t be there. Maybe I can find a way to spread the word about SportsCardBlog.net without going? Who among my readers is going to the National? Maybe I can send some t-shirts for people to wear…
