State of the Blog: Year of 2011

My fellow sports card enthusiasts,

April 23, 2011 is the day I started this blog. This past 8 months has been a great ride. We have one sponsor aboard with Panini who is providing us product to review. We have had a giant promotion with Panini as well giving out a ton of cool prizes. We are currently in talks with Upper Deck and I will be shooting off more emails soon to others. We have also previewed pretty much every product available since we’ve started, we’ve talked about several different on-going topics in the hobby, and we’ve still updated every day since day 1.

With all that work we have amassed a large readership that seems to just grow larger and larger each month. We broke the 10,000 views in a month two months ago and it just keeps growing each month by the thousands.

When I started the blog I wanted to be a place that talked about products and reviewed products. I wanted to be able to give out cards from products as well, because besides me, what’s better than giving new products away so other collectors can check them out? I wanted to be kind of a one stop shop for all that information.

I was told that I probably shouldn’t attempt that when I first had the idea almost 2 years ago now and that it would probably be a waste of time, especially if I wanted to make money off advertising and all that. Well, I haven’t made much money but that’s not the goal right now. What I have made has gone right back into the site to pay for hosting.

But now we have been around 8 months and we are heading into 2012. I predict 2012 will be a big year, not only for myself in my personal life, but for the blog I enjoy spending time on as well.

I thank you all for reading what I write and spending time here. I hope you’ve learned something or maybe I’ve helped you decide whether a product was right for you or not.

With that, what would you like to see added or improved upon? What don’t you like? Where would you like to see this blog go?

I want input and what better way to get this site further then to ask those who read it. If you don’t want to post it here, you can always email me.

So again, thank you and I look forward to 2012. I hope you’ll all be here reading and having fun with me.

Sincerely,

Sports Card Blog

NFL Player of the Day Shipping Update

Hey there! I have a shipping update for the winners of the NFL Player of the Day promotion here on Sports Card Blog.

I have sent the packages for the monthly winners and one of the weekly winners. The rest of the weekly winners and bonus winners will go out tomorrow (pending addresses on some of you). To make it up, I have randomly inserted a Panini Black Friday pack into a few of your packages as a little added surprise, so have fun with those.

Thanks again for participating. I will be handing in all the promotion details to Panini tonight or tomorrow, so wish me luck on that front. I thank everyone for their kind words they have expressed to Panini, you didn’t have to do it but I thank you all.

Want To Get Sports Card Blog by Email?

I have just installed a plugin that will allow you to sign up to receive all posts by email. On the right side bar, you can now put in your email address and receive your daily posts by email. This will help you keep up to date on all the news, previews, contests, or whatever else I will throw at you.

I used to have this on the old server, but we now have it available here, so take advantage of it’s usage! Especially since I’ll be posting a Thanksgiving NFL Player of the Day contest) by the day before Thanksgiving for some bonus points.

Thanks for reading.

Revamping Rating System

I am in the process of revamping the rating system to include half star ratings. This is due to me being indecisive about ratings and generally rounding up. In order to keep my ratings more accurate to my opinion, I’m including these half star ratings.

In the process of deciding this, I will be doing two things:
- Redesigning the rating graphics (done)
- Updating all reviews to include half star ratings (Gonna take awhile)

So the Reviews pages are going to look a little bit off until I move everything over to the new, much better looking, rating system.

You can see the first product with the new rating system hit the blog in the early morning tomorrow with 2011 Panini Absolute Memorabilia.

Sports Card Blog – Panini NFL Player of the Day Update

The goods are in for the Sports Card Blog – Panini NFL Player of the Day contests!

A big box of goodies arrived at my front door last night with all the great prizes I will be giving away. With that, I decided to change things up a little bit as far as how the contest works. I want to give everyone a chance to win at least something “big” so I’m going to divide the prizes over the three month period and have a final prize. The prize structure will look like this for the big prizes:

September Monthly winner – Autographed mini-helmet
October Monthly winner – Box of Panini NFL stickers and jumbo Jordan Todman autograph
November Monthly winner – Hobby box of Panini Threads football
Combined points over all 3 months winner – Panini Black Box

I think this way gives everyone the chance to win one of the big prizes no matter when you started joining the contests.

So saying that, we will consider the September monthly winner the current leader of the standings, who is Michael G! He will be receiving the autographed mini helmet! Congratulations to Michael G!

The points will carry over towards the Black Box grand prize, however, the monthly standings will be reset for the rest of October. That gives everyone a blank slate for this month’s prize which starts this Sunday with these Week 4 entries and goes until the last game in October.

I still have some more great stuff to give away including a bobble head, pennants, more t-shirts, and tons of cards! So stay tuned all October and November!
